Da Capo was established in 1999 by the Directors John Hanley and Chris Fryer. Both wanted to return to the hands-on work with clients and colleagues that had attracted them to social care and therapeutic services in the first instance. Both undertake direct work with children at Da Capo.
John Hanley (Director/ Headteacher) has extensive business, local government and child care experience. John holds a number of academic and professional qualifications - B.Sc. (Econ.); M.Sc.; M.Phil.; CQSW; Dip C Hyp; H.P.D.; Master Practitioner of NLP. A Social Sciences graduate he went on to postgraduate study, research in Social Psychology (M. Phil.) and university teaching. He gained his Social Work qualification (CQSW) in 1981 and added a Masters in Social Services Management (M.Sc.)in 1988. He has extensive experience as a practitioner and manager in multi-disciplinary settings, residential child care (both open and secure units, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Community Assessment services, and local authority social work - including nine years senior operational management experience in a county council Social Services Department.
He moved to the private sector in 1996 establishing an innovative specialist residential service for children in crisis. In 1999 he founded Da Capo. John is an NVQ Assessor (D32/D33) a Registered Member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy and is UKCHO Registered (Reg. No, 80827. He is a Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming and holds both the Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma and Diploma in Cognitive Hypnotherapy.
Chris Fryer (Director) has enjoyed varied employment and business experience. He is a time-served motor mechanic. He served eight years as a police officer (Constable and Acting Sergeant) with the West Mercia Constabulary from 1978-1986. Subsequently he owned and ran a number of small businesses (including, at different times a garage, free range egg small-holding, village stores and 55 bedded residential care and nursing home) prior to entering residential child care in 1993.
Since 1993 Mr. Fryer has gained experience at all levels in the residential child care sector. Starting as an Instructor (motor mechanics) he worked his way through the roles of Child Care Worker, Team Leader, Assistant Manager and Projects Manager before co-founding Da Capo in 1999. Along the way he has collected qualifications in Social Work (DipSW), Counselling (Cert Couns.) and Advanced Care Management (Dip. ACM). He is a Full Associate Trainer of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, NVQ Assessor(D32/D33) and Internal Verifier. He also holds the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Officers Advanced Health and Safety Certificate.
